Administration / Coaching
– Led the Purple Aces men’s basketball team to five National Championships (1959, 60, 64, 65, 71)
– Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1981
– Became Evansville’s first person voted into the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame in 2004
– Was the head coach at the University of Evansville from 1946 until 1977; also served as the athletic director
– Prior to his time at UE, he coached Bosse High School from 1936-43 before serving the U.S. Navy in World War II
– 2-time NCAA College Division Coach of the Year (1964 and 65)
– Assisted Gene Bartow for the US National Team in the 1974 FIBA World Championship, winning the bronze medal
– Earned enshrinement into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1973
